Our friend @mikeytapioka made a fantastic Nankai-b Our friend @mikeytapioka made a fantastic Nankai-based umeshu, also known as plum wine. Umeshu is technically a plum liqueur and it’s made by aging shochu with unripe plums and rock sugar for at least 6 months. It’s a labor of love and patience so we were ecstatic with his gift.

We enjoy it neat or on the rocks, but we also made a fantastic highball cocktail called Umezou, or “plum treasure room.”

Combining the complex notes of Nankai Gold with the sweet tart notes of the umeshu and soda water is a match made in heaven.

Swipe right for recipes for Umezou and the umeshu.

Look what the shochu fairies 🧚‍♀️ dropped Look what the shochu fairies 🧚‍♀️ dropped off today? All-natural Nankai Shochu which has no additives, no sugar, no carbs and no gluten. It’s also one of the lowest calorie spirits around at only 39 calories per ounce.

Enjoy as we and the spirits of the forest do: on the rocks or in a simple cocktail.

Also, we have to come clean. Fairies didn’t really drop off bottles for us. It was Santa.

Today is an important day for a Japanese tradition Today is an important day for a Japanese tradition known as “Kagami Biraki,” which is the day we break open and eat the kagami mochi for New Year’s.

Kagami (literally “mirror”) mochi is a set of two-layered mochi, which resembles a flattened snowman. It is decorated with an orange on top. The kagami mochi is placed around the house and represents strength and the continuity of family generations.

We’re reposting this beautiful photo of senzai (red bean soup) by @rawfoodhaccolab because it’s one of our favorite ways to enjoy mochi.

We’re proud to announce that @moonbloomsake is p We’re proud to announce that @moonbloomsake is part of our portfolio! This wonderful junmai gingo genshu is fruity on the nose with a crisp finish.

Moon Bloom is made by 5th generation master brewer Mami Wakabayashi, the first woman in their 120-year history. We love her story and her approach to sake.

To celebrate we created the Moon Bloom Martini, featuring Moon Bloom Sake and Nankai Shochu.

Swipe right for the recipe.

Today is “nanakusa no sekku” (七草の節句) Today is “nanakusa no sekku” (七草の節句), a long-standing custom to eat 7-herb rice porridge on January 7th.

The custom began in China and was meant to bring longevity and protect against evil spirits. I think of it as a detox after all the holiday gorging.

What herbs or vegetables do you want to put in your “nanakusa” porridge?
