She So Good is an original cocktail using Nankai Shochu and Mishima’s delicious Red Shiso Syrup, which is also known as Yukari Syrup. Served as a highball, it is a bright and refreshing summer cocktail with fantastic herbal aromas. It’s only subtly sweet from the syrup so we recommend enjoying this shochu cocktail with sushi and other Japanese food.
She So Good was first developed by Nankai’s co-founder Mai after enjoying the red shiso syrup mixed with beer at beloved Lomita ramen shop, Eboshi. Discovering that the shiso flavor profile matches well with Nankai’s fruity aroma, she created a highball that has since been adopted by many restaurants and bars in California.
What is Red Shiso?
Along with the She So Good Shochu Cocktail, Red Shiso is a Japanese herb used in a variety of dishes, but especially known for being an ingredient in making umeboshi, or Japanese pickled plum. Red shiso, also known as red perilla leaves or beefsteak plant, is also popular on rice dishes as a type of furikake called Yukari. Known for its bright pink color and unique aroma, Japanese cuisine leans on this ingredient heavily. To learn more about red shiso, check out this blog post by Yunomi.
