Just in time for Halloween, we honor the bloody passions of our favorite dragon-riding githyanki warrior Lae’zel. She’s graceful, powerful, and a little salty. What’s not to love, especially if we represent her as an aromatic spin on the Salty Dog cocktail?

GITH’S BLOOD 

Nankai Shochu 1.5 oz
Elderflower Liqueur 0.25 oz
Dragonfruit 1 large slice
Pink Grapefruit Juice 2 oz

Muddle the dragonfruit in a cocktail shaker. Add Nankai, elderflower, and ice. Shake well. Strain into a salt-rimmed glass over ice. Top with grapefruit juice and garnish with dried dragonfruit.

What’s a great way to enjoy Nankai Gold, our cas What’s a great way to enjoy Nankai Gold, our cask-finished kokuto shochu?  How about a passion fruit-based cocktail that is both sweet, sour and rich?

Our good friend Gersom Gamez (Salud on LinkedIn) is the mastermind behind the Ougon Sour (黄金サワー). Passion fruit is seasonal on Amami Island between June and August, and is often enjoyed with kokuto (black sugar) shochu.

OUGON SOUR (黄金サワー)
1.5 oz Nankai Gold
1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
0.5 oz Passion Fruit Syrup
0.75 Aquafaba 
Angostura Bitters

Combine all but bitters in a cocktail shaker. Shake for 10 seconds. Add ice and shake again for 10 seconds.  Strain into cocktail glass and garnish with lemon peel and dashes of bitters.

*PASSION FRUIT SYRUP
Combine 14 oz bag of frozen passion fruit pulp with 2.5 cups of sugar in a medium saucepan. Simmer until sugar is dissolved.  Let cool.

As summer ends and fall approaches, figs enter pea As summer ends and fall approaches, figs enter peak season.  Our newest seasonal cocktail, the Wise Wasp, celebrates the sweet and earthy fig combined with an aromatic sage syrup (see what we did there?) and bright citrus.

WISE WASP
2 oz Nankai
2 figs
1 oz Orange Liqueur
1 oz Sage Syrup
0.75 oz Lemon
Soda Water

Muddle halved figs in a cocktail shaker. Add Nankai, sage syrup, orange liqueur (like Grand Marnier or Cointreau), and lemon.  Shake with ice.  Double strain into glass over ice.  Top with soda.

To make Sage Syrup: add 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a pot and bring to simmer. Remove from heat and add a sprig of sage leaves to infuse.  Refrigerate upon cooling.
