We came up with this strawberry and jalapeño daiquiri cocktail based on a drink we had a few years back at a speakeasy in Culver City called the Blind Barber. The combination of sweet and spicy, subtle and perfectly balanced, became a quick obsession.
For Valentine’s Day 2021, we came up with this daiquiri riff called “Love & War,” using freshly muddled strawberries and jalapeños. We used Nankai Shochu as our base, which makes this a clean, crisp cocktail. You could also substitute with our barrel-aged Nankai Gold for a boozier and more decadent version. Next, we added simple syrup to lessen the peppery bite of the jalapeños. Them we went with lemon juice, which technically makes this more of a sour than a daiquiri.
The resulting strawberry and jalapeño daiquiri cocktail is superb and utterly addicting. During strawberry season, which typically runs April through June in California, we can’t recommend our Love & War cocktail enough. It’s excellent to enjoy with food or as a drink to carry you through spring and summer.
